We’re getting closer to the podiums at the YONEX Swiss Open, as today players competed for a spot in the quarterfinals. The day was marked by a notable upset involving a big European contender, good fights from those who have left, and wins for many who advanced.
The last match of the day in the round of 16 featured an exciting encounter between Mads Vestergaard/Christine Busch and Robin Tabeling/Alexandra Bøje. Their last meeting in November saw Tabeling/Bøje win in straight games, but today's match told a different story. It was thrilling – Tabeling/Bøje took the first game 21-18, but Vestergaard/Busch fought back to claim the second 25-23. The decider was just as tense, if not more, with both pairs exchanging leads, but ultimately Vestergaard/Busch secured the crucial points, winning 23-21.
Another big moment was the upset of Anders Antonsen by S. Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian. Antonsen won the first game 21-18. However, the match saw him lose the subsequent games 12-21 and 5-21, showing a surprising loss in control in the decisive moments.
