The curtains closed on this year’s first Future Series tournament yesterday, after four days of action. Denmark stole the spotlight with major wins, while Switzerland came out as a big challenger, and local players also took two spots on the podium.

This tournament wraps up this month's tournaments as we go into a short break in the European Elite Circuit, all while we prepare for next month’s big show, the 2025 European Mixed Team Championships.

Denmark was on fire, taking the most medals, including two titles. Karan Rajan Rajarajan won in the men’s singles, outplaying fellow Dane Mathias Solgaard. Meanwhile, the Danish pair, Mikkel Klinggaard/Nicoline Tang, triumphed in the mixed doubles.

Switzerland also gained impressive achievements, especially in the women’s singles. Scotland’s Rachel Sugden won the title, five years after being crowned champion at the same event. Yet, Swiss players took all the remaining spots in the podium, with Julie Franconville as runner-up, and Azkya Aliefa Ruhanda and Leila Zarrouk secured the third/fourth spot. Franconville had an even more successful run in the tournament — she bagged a bronze in mixed doubles with Cloé Brand.

The home players also had their moments, battling their way to the semifinals in doubles events. David Bjarni Bjornsson/Kristofer Darri Finnsson in men’s doubles, and David Bjarni Bjornsson/Arna Karen Johannsdottir in mixed doubles, both ended in the third/fourth spot.

Next stop: Baku, Azerbaijan, for the 2025 European Mixed Team Championships, from 12 to 16 February. Catch all the action live on BadmintonEurope.tv. Also, many national championships across Europe are taking place in the upcoming weeks, with further updates to follow.
