European run ends in China Open quarterfinals

Today marked the end of the road for Europeans in the VICTOR China Open 2024 quarterfinals.

The day started with early matches for Jesper Toft/ Amalie Magelund, who faced a challenging match against the second seeds Feng Yan Zhe/ Huang Dong Ping, losing 21-10 21-10. Similarly, Rasmus Kjær/ Frederik Søgaard narrowly missed advancing, losing a closely contested match to Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/ Daniel Marthin, 21-19, 21-19.

The second session featured higher-seeded Europeans who put strong fights but ultimately fell short of the semifinals. Second seeds Kim Astrup/ Anders Skaarup Rasmussen battled He Ji Ting/ Ren Xiang Yu for three gruelling games, ultimately losing 12-21, 21-11, 19-21.

Likewise, Anders Antonsen engaged in a three-game thriller against Weng Hong Yang, narrowly losing 21-19, 19-21, 21-23. Reflecting on his performance in China, Antonsen expressed mixed emotions: “Two good wins, the first two, but I'm really happy right now. I'm pissed off about not winning that match here, so that's how it is.”
