Multiple pairs are in the run for the top spot at Women’s Doubles at the European Games.

Selena Piek and Cheryl Seinen won their second match at the European Games beating Basova/Fuchsova, Czech Rep. 21-11 21-9. Winning the match, the Dutch secured a spot in the knock-out stage.

- Of course, we are going for gold. We always want to win, but we also have to look at it round by round, Cheryl Seinen said.

- The best unseeded pairs here are almost at the same level as the seeded pairs. Of course, I want to finish first in the group, but the level here is high.

Hard to pick a favourite

Selena Piek and Cheryl Seinen, who are ranked 28 in the World and the fourth seed at the European Games, but they believe they have a chance to do even better.

- It is really hard to say, who is the favourite. The number one seed (Maiken Fruergaard and Sara Thygesen, Denmark) lost yesterday and the level of players are quite equal especially after the Stoevas withdrew. Everybody has a decent chance, and it makes it exciting, Selena Piek said.

- You need to be ready in the quarter-final, because you can easily miss out on the medal, Piek adds.

The Dutch will play Bengisu Ercetin and Nazlican Inci, Turkey in the group final on Wednesday.
