The round of sixteen has now finished, and we have been treated to several closely competed matches.

Eight matches from the round took all three games to determine a winner and it made for interesting viewing.

Germans avoid shock

In the Mixed Doubles category this morning, Mark Lamsfuss/Isabel Herttrich came from a game behind to bat Cinson Chiu/Breanna Chi from Malaysia.

The German pair took a while to settle into the new hall environment after having a bye through to the round of 16, which meant that they did not play yesterday.

Despite coming from behind, the second and third game was not all in the German’s favour, with a score line of 22-20 in the second and 21-17 in the final game.

It was a tough match and we struggled, but we managed to win in the end and we are happy with that, Mark Lamsfuss said.

It is a new hall, we have never been here, everything is new. Also the hotel and things around, but it can only get better, Isabel Herttrich added.

Jaquet shows her qualities

In a closely fought out contest, Sabrina Jaquet from Switzerland managed to beat her opponent Chananchida Jucharoen from Thailand.

The two players before the match were just one place apart in the World Rankings, which could explain the close three games, which Jaquet prevailed in.

The first game was difficult for the Swiss Women’s Singles player as she fell to a 16-21 defeat, but with confidence she turned the match around to win the second and third games 21-15, 22-20.

Jaquet will now face another player in the quarterfinals, who has performed against better opponents, at this tournament, Lianne Tan from Belgium.
