Badminton Club Chambly Oise became the last French club standing at the 2013 European club championships in Beauvais after their convincing 4-1 quarter final victory over Turkish side Egospor in the morning quarter-final session at the Elispace Arena.

It was to be a day of mixed fortune for the French clubs on home soil as French Champions Strasbourg were dealt a blow with the forced withdrawal of their key singles player Sashina Vignes Waran through injury. Vignes Waran has proved pivotal all week in singles and doubles and without her Strasbourg were always going to struggle against Danish Champions TSS.

Strasbourg went down 4-1 to the star studded Danish champions while on the adjoining court Thomas Rouxel and Kirsty Gilmour sent Chambly on their way to the semi-finals where they will now come up against the might of Vittinghus, Mateusiak, Zieba and Co for a spot in the grand finale.

“We have achieved a medal now which is great and we can go all in for the match against the Danes later this evening” commented Gilmour after her team’s victory.

Amersfoort Going from strength to strength

After a dismal start to the tournament in losing their very first group match, BC Amersfoort have managed to defy the odds not only to top their group but also advance to the semi-finals by virtue of their 4-1 win over Portuguese outfit CHE Lagoense.

The only light for the Portuguese was the victory in three games of Telma Santos over Dutch youngster Gayle Mahulette in a match that the Dutch doubles controlled from start to finish.

Amersfoort will have to find yet another gear to trouble the top seeded Primorye Vladivostok in this evening’s semi-final after the Russians beat Polish champions UKS Hubal Bialystok in the last of the four morning quarter finals.
