Danish Kim Bruun was the only European on court today in Japan, and the Dane is ready to face a Chinese opponent in the second round on Wednesday.

Kim Bruun, 24, is ranked 70 in the World met Naoki Yamazawa from Japan in the first round. The first round match lasted for 61 minutes and Bruun had the upper hand in the decider, which he won 21-16.

Typical first round
The Japanese, who is ranked 262 in the World, won the first game 21-19, while Bruun won the second game 21-15.

- It was a typical first round match where it was hard to get started and to get “the good feeling” on court. It was a really hard fight today, and to be honest it was not pretty badminton from my side, Bruun says.

- I am very happy for my win today. The venue is big, and you really have to run, if you want to win. I hope I can do better tomorrow, Bruun says.

Jan Ø. Jørgensen also in Japan
Kim Bruun is not travelling alone. The former European Champion Jan Ø. Jørgensen joined the 24-year-old on the trip to Japan.

- Jan and I need points for the World Ranking because we have both been injured. We had to choose between Russia and Japan, so we chose Japan.

Kim Bruun will face Chinese Lu Guangzu, seeded three, on Wednesday, while Jan Ø. Jørgensen will play Hsuan Yi Hsueh from Chinese Taipei in his first match at the tournament.
