Carola Bott creates upset

The second day of Yonex Estonian International in the Men’s singles event did not produce any surprises as the top seeds progressed to the quarter-finals. Although the top seed and home crowd favourite Raul Must had to fight hard in three games to get past the young Finn Iikka Heino.

He will face the sixth seeded Thomas Rouxel in the next match. The second and third seeds Andrew Smith from England and Kento Momota from Japan had more comfortable wins on their way to the quarterfinals.

The biggest upset in the Women’s singles was when Carola Bott took down the number one seed Alesia Zaitsava in a two game match 21:18, 21:19. Bott will now face Delphine Lansac from France who defeated the sixth seed Lucie Cerna from the Czech Republic. Also the third seed Perrine Le Buhanic went out in a match against Julie Rechnagel Christensen.

In the Men’s doubles half of the quarter-finalists are French pairs. The top seeds Antoine Lodiot and Julien Maio who in the second round won Russians Maxim Romanov and Sergey Don in three games will face their teammates Laurent Constantin and Matthieu Lo Ying Ping.

The most exciting match in Women’s doubles took place between the top seeded Russians Irina Hlebko and Ksenia Polikarpova and the French pair Laura Cohinet and Perrine Le Buhanic where the Russians had to work hard to secure their place in the quarterfinals. In the Mixed doubles to the delight of the home crowd two Estonian pairs Kristjan Kaljurand/Laura Tomband and  Vahur Lukin-Grete Talviste got to the quarter-finals.
