There was double success for Chinese Taipei at the 2012 Yonex Welsh International as they walked away with both the Men’s and Ladies Singles titles and also for double success for England’s Marcus Ellis and Gabby White (pictured) who each took two doubles titles.

First up was the Mixed Doubles, an all English affair between Gabby White and Marcus Ellis and Heather Olver and Chris Langridge with White and Ellis coming out on top in a closely fought two setter, 22-20, 21-16.

Next up was the Ladies Singles Final between No 1 seed Petya Nedelcheva (Bulgaria) and unseeded Mei Hui Chiang (Chinese Taipei). Nedelcheva took a tight first set 21-19 but Chiang fought back and took the next two, 21-19, 21-17 to take the title.

The third of the finals saw No 1 seed Tien Chen Chou (Chinese Taipei) take on unseeded Kuan Beng Hong (Malaysia) in the Men’s Singles. Chou showed why he was the No 1 seed and ran out the winner by 21-15, 21-13.

Next was the much anticipated Men’s Doubles final between the Anglo/Scottish pairing of Marcus Ellis and Paul Van Rietvelde and the English pair of Peter Briggs and Harley Towler. Briggs and Towler took the first set 21-16 but No 2 seeds Ellis and Van Rietvelde upped their game to take the second and the third sets 21-9, 21-16.

The last final was the Ladies Doubles between England’s Gabby White and Lauren Smith and Scotland’s Jillie Cooper and Kirsty Gilmour. The No 1 seeds of White and Smith showed they were on form and won in two sets 21-7, 21-14.
