Germany beats the neighbours – secures bronze medals

Germany and France met in the quarter-finals of the 2018 European Women’s Team Championships, and the German secured the medal winning 3-0.

In the first women’s single France got a good start. Yaelle Hoyaux won the first game 21-11 against Fabienne Deprez. The German won the second game 23-21 after a true thriller, and Deprez could also secure the German lead winning the third game 21-13.

- In the end second game I got the good feeling. My self-confidence came back, and I tried to play longer rallies, and it worked, Deprez says.

Heim as match-winner
The German lead was doubled after two matches. Isabel Herttrich and Carla Nelte won a close match against Emilie Lefel and Anne Tran 21-12 19-21 21-16.

In the second women’s single is wasn’t a big problem for Luise Heim to secure the spot in the semi-finals. The German Champion won in straight games against Marie Batomene 21-11 21-9.

- I was nice to be on court today. I had my team in my back, and I could feel their support. There was not much pressure on me, and that was good, Luise Heim says.

- It is good to have the bronze medals, but now we want more.

Germany will play either Spain or Turkey in the semi-final on Saturday.
