In three weeks, the first training at Badminton Europe’s Centre of Excellence (COE) will commence and Badminton Europe (BEC) is happy to announce Gerda Voitechovskaja from Lithuania as the 10th COE player.

Gerda Voitechovskaja is 26 years old and from the city of Klaipeda, Lithuania. She is playing for Klaipeda Badminton Club and is studying a Master’s Degree in physical education, but from 1 September 2017 her life will change as she will move to Denmark to be a part of the COE.

This has been a necessary move for Voitechovskaja if she wants to follow her dreams of becoming an even better badminton player:

“In my country [Lithuania], badminton is not that popular and there is not that many possibilities to grow like a player, if you want to be a top player. So, I think that this centre is a very good idea for the small countries and players which want to grow and be in the top of the sport. “, she explains.

Joining the centre makes her very happy but she is also very aware of the challenge ahead:

“Badminton Europe and the Centre of Excellence are giving a lot of possibilities to us [COE players] and the outcome will depend on how we take this challenge. I will try to take everything that they give and do the best that I can to achieve my goals. I just feel so happy that I can join Centre of Excellence and I hope it will give me a lot of good experiences”, said Voitechovskaja, “I'm so glad and thankful to Badminton Europe for this chance.”

Voitechovskaja’s hope is that this experience will take her as far as the Olympic Games in Tokyo, in 2020.  Until then, Badminton Europe wishes Gerda Voitechovskaja the best of luck and welcomes her to the Centre of Excellence.
