It's time for the Badminton Swiss International in Yverdon-les-Bains. The 15.000 US Dollars tournament in the Vaud region is part of the Badminton Europe Circuit tournaments.

For the Swiss players it is a great opportunity to compete against top foreign players and for the new Swiss national coach John Dinesen (Denmark), it would be an ideal possibility to see if his Swiss players did already absorbe his implemented training culture of the past weeks.

The tournament will see the test of the experimental scoring system 5x11. It was already tested in Switzerland three weeks ago at the Swiss Junior Open in Basel. The new system 5x11 was applied, while both the players and the audience had the opportunity to experience the games where anything could happen before reaching 11 points. Exciting encounters on both ends.

The men's singles category saw the largest number of entries ever in Yverdon. More than 107 players are on the list, including the Indian Arvind Bhat, who won this year's Yonex German Open. In Yverdon, he is however only seeded at 6 in the tournament. Derek Wong of Singapore, who is the top seed, and Spanish player Beatriz Corrales, who is number two in Spain, behind world champion Carolina Marin, are the favourites to take the singles crowns.

260 players from 30 countries, including many top players from badminton powerhouses such as Indonesia and Malaysia are participating in the Swiss International.

In the women's singles, Sabrina Jaquet of Switzerland is ranked No. 5 in the tournament and No. 3 in doubles with Ayla Huser. For the men, 17 Swiss players must qualify before ending up in the main draw. To do this, a player must pass three rounds in one day. There are tough sessions ahead.
