Nedelcheva victorious on home turf

The Eurasia Bulgaria Open 2014 brought around 150 elite badminton players from 20 countries to the Bulgarian capital Sofia. Home favourite Petya Nedelcheva qualified for both the women’s singles and women’s doubles finals of the 5000 US Dollars event. The No. 2 seed won her semifinal against Neslihan Yigit (Turkey) 11:10, 11:6, 11:6 in just 30 minutes. In the match for the title, Petya Nedelcheva beat Özge Bayrak (Turkey).

In the women‘s doubles Nedelcheva and Dimitria Popstoykova won the semifinals against the French duo of Delphine Delerue and Verlaine Faulmann 11:4, 11:2, 11:6 and qualified for the finals, where they lost to Neshlihan Yigit and Özge Bayrak of Turkey 11:5, 11:5, 8:11, 10:11, 11:7.

Stiliyan Makarska (Bulgaria) and Tripet Celine (Switzerland) lost the final of the men’s doubles event to Alexandre Hammer and Joanna Chaube (France) with a score of 7:11; 11:8; 11:10; 11:9.

The French pair of Toma Junior Popov and Thomas Vallez took the men’s doubles title as they beat their compatriatios Ronan Gueguin and Alexandre Hammer in three close games.

It was the Estonian top shuttler Raul Must, who proved to be the best in the men’s singles category as he beat Michal Rogalski of Poland in five games 11:6; 10:11; 8:11; 11:10; 11:9.
