The finals day at the 2014 European U17 Championships saw England winning two golds medals to become the most successful nation in Ankara.

Ben Lane and Jess Pugh opened finals day with a victory over the top seeds from Russia to win the mixed doubles title. The second seeded English pair took just 38 minutes to win the European crown, beating Rodion Alimov and Alina Davletova 21-18, 18-21, 21-14.

Two gold medals for England

Lane then made it two golds from two finals as he partnered Matthew Clare to the men’s doubles crown. Lane and Clare overcame the second seeded Danes Joel Eipe/Jeppe Bay Madsen to reach the final and put in just as an explosive performance to win the men’s doubles title against the Russian top seeds Rodion Alimov/Alexandr Kozyrev. The English pair, seeded to reach the last four, powered their way to a 21-15, 21-17 victory.

Denmark's Anders Antonsen and Germany's Yvonne Li, 16 and 15 years of age, took the singles titles without dropping a game on Sunday. Antonsen beat Toma Junior Popov from France 21-9, 21-12, while Yvonne Li secured her gold medal with a 21-13, 21-17 victory over England's Ira Banerjee.

First medal for Croatia in European Championships

The final of the women's doubles category became the most thrilling match of the day. The top seeded English duo Ira Banerjee/Jessica Pugh won the opening end 21-17 but a Croatian comeback by Katarina Galenic/Maja Pavlinic saw the English duo defend four Championship points before falling 21-17, 19-21, 22-24. It is the first ever European Championships medal for Croatia.
