The Dutch are hungry for medals. On the third day of the YONEX Dutch Open 2023, we're starting at 1pm, and many of the Dutch players, competing on home turf, have made it to the Round of 16.

The International Challenge tournament is soon entering its deciding stages. Today, with the Round of 16, we will have quite some interesting matches. In an all-Dutch encounter, Aram Mahmoud will be clashing with Joran Kweekel, the eighth seed. They haven't faced each other since 2021, making it an intriguing encounter. Whoever wins will face either fellow Dutch player Dennis Koppen or the number four seed, Azerbaijan’s Ade Resky Dwicahyo.

Today will be the first match in the tournament for one of the home favourite duos, European Games silver medallists and top seeds Debora Jille/ Cheryl Seinen, facing Germany's Ella Neve and Katharina Rudert. In the women's singles, Jaymie Laurens, Alida Chen, and Chloe Mayer are all Dutch players in the fight for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Ties van der Lecq, the 2022 European Championships men's doubles bronze medallist, is facing two important matches today. In the men's doubles, partnered with Dyon van Wijlick, they will take on England's Alex Green/ Brandon Zhi Hao Yap, who together finished as this year's Iceland International runner-ups.

In mixed doubles, van der Lecq is partnering with Alyssa Tirtosentono, and due to a withdrawal in the first round, they will be playing their first match today, against Bulgaria's Iliyan Stoynov/ Tsvetina Popivanova.

England's Rory Easton/ Zach Russ, Callum Hemming/ Ethan Van Leeuwen, and Callum Hemming/ Estelle Van Leeuwen, all finished on the podium at the Scottish Open last week and are also still in the race at the YONEX Dutch Open.
