Yvonne Li shines on home soil

On the second day of the YONEX German Open 2023, all the remaining stars stepped on court in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany. The German women's singles player Yvonne Li was one of many Europeans advancing to the Round of 16 at the BWF Super 300 event. 

Li did not have the best start to 2023 and was struggling with her performance lately. All the more relieved she was after her opening victory at her home tournament against Aya Ohori from Japan. "I tried to get my mind off the last weeks and just think from one day to another. I was happy with my fast legs and my fighting spirit today, so that's very nice", said Yvonne Li after winning 21-19, 22-20.

More European singles players that advanced to the Round of 16: Qi Xuefei, Christo Popov, Hans Kristian Vittinghus, Luis Enrique Penalver.

Kick-off for men's and women's doubles 

In the evening the doubles disciplines kicked off at the German Open and we also saw some solid wins for our European pairs. Eight of them won their opener and will fight tomorrow for the quarterfinals. All fans that stayed until the end witnessed a big fight between two German mens double's pairs that lasted 65 minutes. Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel hat to go all the way against Jan Voelker and Bjarne Geiss but eventually took the win 19-21, 21-14, 21-18.
