Carolina Marin and Thom Gicquel/ Delphine Delrue made it to their third quarterfinals of the Asian leg and this time, they both got through to secure a medal.

The third time's the charm and this has certainly been true for our last Europeans standing at the DAIHATSU Indonesia Masters 2023. Today was the third quarterfinal in the third tournament of the year for Carolina Marin and Thom Gicquel/ Delphine Delrue. Neither of them had made it past this stage in the previous two events but Indonesia has finally seen them advance to the semifinals, securing a medal.

Carolina Marin faced a fellow European today in the quarterfinals. Line Christophersen has had quite a result in this tournament and in today’s match against the European Champion, the Dane lost with a close result in the first game but couldn’t keep up with Marin, who ended up winning in straight games 22-20 21-9.

Marin will be facing China’s Han Yue in the semifinals. Last year, they met in two big tournaments — Denmark Open and French Open —. Han won on Danish soil, but Marin took the win in Paris. Who will make it to the final in Istora?

Thom Gicquel/ Delphine Delrue are off to a stellar start to the year. After a tough match yesterday, the French talents got to close their quarterfinal win in straight games, 21-16 21-19, against sixth seeded Goh Soon Huat/ Lai Shevon Jemie, Malaysia.

Gicquel/Delrue will meet Feng Yan Zhe/ Huang Dong Ping in the semifinals, being this the first time that they play against each other. Whatever happens in the fight for a spot in the finals, this goes to show that there are more great performances to come from the French pair in 2023.
