A first action-packed day unfolds at the Spain Masters

The Madrid Spain Masters 2024 started today, giving fans a day full of exciting badminton matches and moments they won't forget.

Qualification stage
The day began with qualifying matches and first to play was Alvaro Vazquez who qualified to the main draw by beating Italian player Giovanni Toti in straight games 23-21 21-16.

Polina Buhrova from Ukraine and Spaniard Clara Azurmendi won their matches and went straight to the main draw in women’s singles.

Men's doubles
Young Danes William Kryger Boe/ Christian Faust Kjær won their match against Malaysian players Low Hang Yee/ Ng Eng Choeng.

Joshua Magee/ Paul Reynolds from Ireland lost their match in three games to German duo Bjarne Geiss/ Jan Colin Voelker, 21-17, 20-22, 13-21.

One of the standout matches of the day featured the French duo of Toma Junior Popov/ Christo Popov facing off against Fabricio Farias/ Davi Silva from Brazil. The Popov brothers lost the first game but managed to come back and win the other two games.

Women's doubles 
Julia Meyer/ Leona Michalski lost against Paula Lopez/ Lucia Rodriguez. Bulgarian stars Gabriela Stoeva/ Stefani Stoeva won their match against Julie Finne-Ipsen/ Mai Surrow from Denmark in straight games, 24–22 21-13.
