Amidst the picturesque backdrop in Cagliari, the RSL BEC Para Badminton Event 2023 is set to unfold with the BWF Coaches course – Module 13 and an Administrator’s course, promising an unparalleled Para badminton learning experience in what will be the ninth edition of the event.
The Admin course will host ten participants from eight countries, while the Coaching course will feature 11 participants from ten countries. Dina Abouzeid Sarinena from Spain and Kaity Hall from Scotland will lead the Coaching course, and the Admin course will be guided by BEC Development & High Performance Manager Jeroen van Dijk and BEC Development & High Performance Officer Tommi Saksa.
Van Dijk expresses his enthusiasm: “Since the integration of Para badminton into Badminton Europe and its debut at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2020, we have been able to support and develop Para badminton through different projects. I am very happy to see that we still have a strong interest from our members in the upcoming Para Event in Cagliari. I hope that the event will inspire, develop, and create a new network for the participants involved in the course."
But what makes this event even more special is the intimate connection between Maracalagonis and badminton, as shared by Andrea Delpin, Sardinia FIBa Regional Delegate: "Maracalagonis, a small town of around 8,000 inhabitants, has become famous not only for the splendid beaches in the area but also for the practice of badminton. The sports palace hosts a sports club called Marabadminton Academy, which has been participating in the top Italian national championship for three years. In 2023, the club won the European Club Championships held in Oviedo."
"Hosting such an important European event as the RSL BEC Para Badminton Event will stimulate us to dedicate ourselves with greater interest and commitment to Para badminton activities," he continues. "For this reason, we are proud to be able to make an organisational contribution to the development of this noble sporting discipline and we thank the European Badminton Confederation for having assigned us the organisation of this event."
